Girls In Books // Reality Portrayed in Books V.S Reality, Reality.

FLYTIP-0304_blk_discussions

Hello everyone 😀

Today I’m going to talk about girls in books. This will be discussing how girls are portrayed in books, but the situations are actually very different IRL. The way books see us, differs to what we really are.

Books – All the nerds hang with each other, and end up getting bullied. The outcasts band as one, and have lunch behind the trash cans. All above it is the most popular girls who are the meanest, but super well dressed. Usually dating half the football team.

Reality – I’ll admit a school is not a school without cliques. But they are not as strict books, and movies (like Mean Girls) portray them. I even have a personal example. My group of friends have multiple personalities per person. We have me, a bibliophile, but also loves sports, and trying on new clothes. And another one of my best friends love both fashion, and books. We fangirl a lot together.

And the “popular girls” in school aren’t hateful towards any other person. Just don’t be on their bad side, but I think that goes for everyone.

Books – There’s one girl who is super quiet, one who is super loud, trying to get the former out of her shell.

Reality – Wrong again. Like stated above, there are so many personalities in one friendship. They can both be quiet, and nerdy. Or be both loud, and outgoing. And it doesn’t even have to be two girls. You could have a 3 or even 4 best friends!

Capture

Books – Sleepover, school dances, and lot’s of shopping. Fan girling over guys.

Reality– This is really common in books. Girl bonding usually happens when they are shopping, or something. This, of course does not happen in the real word. It can happen anywhere, and be about anything (not just romance). We talk about serious thing too, like family matters.

Capture

Books – Average, quiet, sensible, sometimes prone to gossiping, sometimes badass, but only in fantasy novels.

Reality: Uhhh, we’re human, people. We all have flaws, and we’re all different. I don’t see a lot of that in books. For some reason Cait from Dreamland sounds exactly the same as Alice from Windfall. They are to different books, written by two different authors, but they sound almost the same.

That is my long/not so long post about the common misconceptions about girls in books. I feel like authors don’t really get how teenage girls lifestyle are. What do you think? Do you agree? Do you disagree? Would you like to add-on? What are some more misconceptions girls face?

The Greek God Book Tag!

Thank you soo much too Zuky @ Bookbum for tagging me in the Greek Gods Book Tag! She actually made this tag HERSELF (omg, how cool is that?), and it’s really fun. I am a big fan of Greek myths, so this tag is just my thing.

Rules:

  • Pingback to Zuky @ Bookbum (so she could see your post)
  • You could use Zuky’s graphics, but you don’t have too.
  • Tag as many people as you want, but please, share the love

ZEUS: KING OF THE GODS – YOUR FAVORITE BOOK

Does a series count?? If it does Harry Potter for the win. But if it does not, I would say The Weight of Feathers by Annie-Marie McLemore is one my new favorites.

HERA: QUEEN OF THE GODS – A BADASS FEMALE CHARACTER

I actually have a whole list, but my most favorite is Annabeth Chase from The Lightning Thief series. She’s the daughter of the Greek goddess, Athena.

JANUS: GOD OF BEGINNINGS – YOUR FAVORITE DEBUT(S)

I never thought I’d be so happy to see that (S)! 2017 has been such a good year for debuts (in my opinion). I almost loves all the debut books I read. Some of my favorites are: Caraval by Stephanie Garber (review here), AND The Weight of Feathers by Annie-Marie McLemore, (tbh, I love this book way too much)

ATHENA: GODDESS OF WISDOM – YOUR FAVORITE NON-FICTION BOOK

Portrait Revolution by Julia L. Kay. I love drawing, and painting, and this book brought on many ways to view a picture.

APHRODITE: GODDESS OF LOVE – A BOOK YOU ADORE AND RECOMMEND EVERYONE READ (OTHER THAN YOUR FAVORITE BOOK!)

To All The Boys I Loved Before  by Jenny Han.  It’s a cute book about a girl in love, and has such a great romance.

HADES: GOD OF THE UNDERWORLD – AN EVIL BOOK YOU WISH DIDN’T EXIST

Beastly by Alex Flinn was a TERRIBLE BOOK! I don’t like using the term “hate” too often, but THIS BOOK DESERVED IT.  I hated almost everything about it, especially the main character.

POSEIDON: GOD OF THE SEA & EARTHQUAKES – A BEAUTIFUL & GROUND-BREAKING BOOK

Caraval for the win! I feel like I’m repeating books, over, and over again, but this was such an awesome book.

APOLLO: GOD OF THE ARTS – A BEAUTIFUL BOOK COVER

Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton.  This was a cover-buy for me, because of the color scheme.  I can’t resist gold, and blue!

HYPNOS: GOD OF SLEEP – A BOOK SO BORING YOU ALMOST FELL ASLEEP

The Graces by Laura Eve. When I received the ARC for this book I screamed, but then I started reading the book, and I GOT SOOO BORED! I think I yawned about 50 times during the book.

HERMES: MESSENGER OF THE GODS – A BOOK YOU SPED THROUGH

Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick was a book I finished in one sitting! I loved it sooo much, but sadly the second book wasn’t that great.

If you were not tagged, I still tag you! Do you agree with the books I’ve chosen? Do you disagree? How would you answer these questions? What do you think of this tag? Let me know!

This or That Book Tag!

It’s been sooo long since I did a tag! Today, I’m going to do the This or That Book Tag, which I was tagged by Nikki @ The Night Is Dark And Full of Book (Game of Thrones reference). Thanks for tagging me in this, and sorry I didn’t do it sooner (for some wordpress reminded me right now, even though you posted it in the summer 😦 )

1. Reading on The Couch or The Bed?

Bed for the automatic win. I prefer reading on the bed than the couch because I can fall asleep right away.

2. Female or Male Character?

I would choose female character because I think it’s far more easier to relate, and connect with. With a male character, I don’t get all the complicated friendship stuff (yes, I find guy friendships more complicated than girls). I don’t mind reading in a male P.O.V though.

3. Sweet or Salty Snacks While Reading?

I don’t really eat food while reading, but if I had too choose I would say sweet. If I had to be more specific, oranges.

4. Trilogies or quartets?

How about none? I don’t like series because A) I might have really expectations for one of the books, but it fails to live up to them and B) they take really long to finish… But if I had to choose, trilogies. Just like Nikki, the less books the better.

5. First person or third person P.O.V?

First person for sure! It feels like I’m relieving the events of the book, and gives me a sense of the readers feel. Which essentially makes me feel closer to the narrator.

6. Reading in the night or morning?

This is actually a tough one. I like reading in both times, and it doesn’t make a difference. But if I really had to choose one, I’d say in the night.

7. Libraries or Bookstores?

Libraries for sure, because for the obvious reasons. It’s free, and usually gives me enough time to finish a book. Some people say that books from libraries are dirty, and disgusting. I disagree because we bibliophiles, would never treat a book like that. And if the book is dirty thelibrary usually replaces it with a better copy.

8. Books that make you laugh or cry?

Laughing for sure. Crying for a book is really depressing, and would leave me with a book hangover.

9. Black or White Cover Books?

White covers because they always look elegant to me. Although, it doesn’t really matter too me.

10. Character or Plot-Driven

Plot driven for sure because a boring storyline, but really good characters does not appeal to me. Who would want to read something with no plot line? I really think that the plot is really important to a story, because it makes the story, a story.

That’s it for this tag! What do you think of my answers? Do you agree? Do you disagree? How about you answer them for yourself?

I’m Goodreads Book Tag // Get To Know My Reading Status

I haven’t done a book tag in such a long time, so when Liesje @ A Thousand Lives tagged me to do the Goodreass Tag, I was more than happy to participate ( so thanks Liesje!).

My last read was As Red As Blood a translated book originally written by a German author called Salla Simuka. It was a great book providing a lot of suspense, and had a dark mood.

I’m currently finishing up a reread of All The Bright Places by Jenifer Niven

According to Goodreads I marked Roseblood by A.G Howard as my to-read. This was hyped a lot in the past few moths, and I can’t wait to get my own copy!
What book do you plan to read next?

I am planning to read Life of Pi by Yann Martel. I haven’t watched the movie, but I heard great things about this book. I really have high hopes!

Yes I do! I have thought of changing it, but stars were the easiest.

This is my second time doing one, and I’m doing about 100 books. I can’t really update it a lot because computer promblems. I am up to like 23 books.

Uh no. I don’t do those because my list will be HUGE!
What book do you plan on buying next?

I’m trying not to waste waste a lot of money on books, but I know for sure I’m getting Caraval for sure. This was also hyped a lot during these past few months.

This is really tough because I have quite a few. I like a lot of authors who write hardcore fantasy, like V.E Schwab, J.K Rowling, Reene Ahdieh (sorry if I spelled her name wrong). I also like sweet contemporary authors like Kasie West, Jennifer E. Smith, Jeniffer Niven.

befunky-design
I have, but I’m not that active in it, except for maybe the Beat The Backlist challenge, and my book club. Yeah, now I see why I have no friends.

Fourteen, but with this upcoming months,  I know that it will increase.
