Title: Six of Crows
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Rating: 5/5 stars!
Blurb (GR): Criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker has been offered wealth beyond his wildest dreams. But to claim it, he’ll have to pull off a seemingly impossible heist:
Break into the notorious Ice Court
(a military stronghold that has never been breached)Retrieve a hostage
(who could unleash magical havoc on the world)Survive long enough to collect his reward
(and spend it)Kaz needs a crew desperate enough to take on this suicide mission and dangerous enough to get the job done – and he knows exactly who: six of the deadliest outcasts the city has to offer. Together, they just might be unstoppable – if they don’t kill each other first.
“No mourners, No funerals”
- Plot – I freaked out when I read the blurb, because I saw the words impossible heist, six of the deadliest outcasts, and I knew I was in for a lot of adventure. And I was right!! Six of Crows was just so freaking action-packed, and unlike any YA fantasy book I’ve ever read. This book consists of six thieves/outcasts who have suffered in the past, their own way. They have received a mission from a wealthy merchant, to rescue a famous scientist, and receive 30 million kruge in return. And of course, Kaz, and crew accept.
This was filled with so many plot twists, and surprises me. I cannot tell you how many times I sat open-mouthed when reading this book. The bad-ass-ness (is that even a word?) of this book amazed me! It was just so complex, but organized at the same time.
- World-building/Plot – This took place in the slums, the “dangerous part” of Ketterdam. This book set a dark mood, which was perfect for the setting. AND THE MAGIC/GANG ORGANIZATION IN THIS BOOK, THOUGH! Everything was so organized from start to finish, and I fell in love with the Grisha-verse. The magic system was such a surprise. Grisha (magical beings) weren’t actually powerful, rather seen as a “blight” in this world, and sometimes used as slaves. This was a fresh break from the ‘’ people with superpowers, are dominant” trope. Those can be seen in Red Queen (Silver bloods), and A Court of Thorns, and Roses (Fae).
- Friendships! – Even though, it is a bad of ruthless thieves, who can kill each other any moment, they were pretty close. I especially admired Neena’s and Inej’s friendship the most. They were like childhood friends!
The characters had FLAWS! It made them seem much more believable, and enjoyable. Every character had their own voice, and it wasn’t really hard to tell apart who was who.
Kaz- He was my favorite, and a very good role model (if you take away the stealing, and gambling part) to his crew. He had a wonderful sense of dry humor, and was totally unpredictable! But underneath all that layers of darkness, he was caring, and it showed in subtle ways. But I didn’t like that he didn’t confess to Inej. I get why he didn’t, but it AGGRAVATED me to no end.
Inej – Inej was definitely one of my favorite characters! She’s loyal to the Dregs, and a very important asset. She is the Wraith, unable to be heard, and most of the time unable to be seen. She was just so independent, and not what I expected.
Matthias – Matthias was a ‘meh’ character for me, especially in the beginning. But I did admire his cleverness, and his character development (!!). As well as his love for Neena. But tbh, he was just sorta there.
Wylan – WYLAN IS SO CUTE, AND INNOCENT! Wylan’s part in the story just made him even more special, and I ship him with Jesper.
Neena – Neena was just so awesome! She takes first place in my book of favorite characters. She eats food, acts tough (but really is a smol bean inside), and knows where her priorities are. I admire her strength, and her ability to help others.
Jesper – Jesper was like the “comic relief” guy, and I was glad for that. He is so optimistic, and cheery. But like most of the characters in this book, there was much more to him than that. I could tell that most of the characters pegged him as the happy-go-lucky guy, and seriously I didn’t like that. I wished Kaz payed a bit more attention to him, as well.
So this was told in six alternate P.OV’S , and when I heard that I was a bit hesitant. I thought it would be jumbled up. But it wasn’t! The crew was together, so there wasn’t any of those repeated plots, or totally different plots causing confusion. Everyone got enough page-time! It was perfect!!
This book was amazing! 5/5 stars!!
I loved this book so much! Did you read Six of Crows yet? Do you plan to? If you did read it, what did you think of it? Who were your favorite characters? Who was you least favorite character?
Nice! I’ve had this on my TBR for awhile and this really increased my excitement to read it! 😀

I LOVE MATTHIAS, how can you not? Inej was just too perfect for me in this book (like her way more in CK though I ship her so bad with KAZ) Speaking of Kaz, oh my freakin’ evil, HE’S SO EVIL AND MASTERMINDS AND I LOVE HIM FOREVER. Wylan is so incredibly cuutte, and Jesper I feel get’s ignored sometimes? The world building, multiple P.O.V’ s WILL ALWAYS STUN me and her writing style just adds to my infinite awe.
