Title: Beastly

Author: Alex Flinn

Blurb: I am a beast.

A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog but a horrible new creature who walks upright—a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster.

You think I’m talking fairy tales? No way. The place is New York City. The time is now. It’s no deformity, no disease. And I’ll stay this way forever—ruined—unless I can break the spell.

Yes, the spell, the one the witch in my English class cast on me. Why did she turn me into a beast who hides by day and prowls by night? I’ll tell you. I’ll tell you how I used to be Kyle Kingsbury, the guy you wished you were, with money, perfect looks, and the perfect life. And then, I’ll tell you how I became perfectly . . . beastly.

I don’t even know what to say about this. Except that I did not really enjoy this book, and I’m giving it a two star, and I wish I never spent my time on this book.

                                                                   Plot

This is a fairy tale retelling of beauty and the beast told in modern New York City.  And I’m always up for fairy tale re tellings. Those books are usually the best. Usually. Unfourtanetly, this wasn’t one of those cases. This was the worst re-telling I ever read!

In the beginning, it had a very sluggish pace, that almost made me DNF it. It took too long to get to the main part of the story.  The whole time, the author just told how much of a jerk the main character really is.

The middle when Kyle turned into a beast, I was like “Yes something finally happened!”. Turns out this was just as boring. After, the witch turned Kyle into a beast. All he did was sulk around in his expensive house, being all sad and useless. And when Kyle finally meets Lindy, I almost fell asleep. This girl, Lindy almost seemed content about being trapped in with a monster. And I don’t think that she has right chemistry with Kyle. It almost seemed forced.

Kyle and Lindy fell in love wayyy to quickly. I thought she hated him

This book was way too predictable. I knew what was going to happen from the start. I didn’t even blink! It was obvious from the very start, Kyle was going to end up with Lindy. And he was going to transform back into a human (oops did I spoil it for you? Oh well you  would’ve figured it out from the beginning anyway #sorrynotsorry).  I hated the ending because it was just to happy, and unrealistic.

                                                              Characters

Basically, my rating to the charcaters

Kyle – Kyle is a rich spoiled brat, and I wish he stayed a beast because he totally deserved it. I hated this guy. Hated him! He was your average rich kid who thinks he’s so popular, but really everyone hates him. Everyone, spoils him because he’s rich. But, Kyle is so stupid he decides to stand up a witch during a dance, and gets turned into a beast because of it. And still, throughout the story he still acts like a jerk.

Lindy – I hate her as well. At first I liked her. She was acting strong, fighting back, even though she’s scared to death. But after a little bit of books, and a sleigh ride, BAM! She’s in love. That was the worst love story I ever read!

                                                              Writing Style

The biggest issue in this book was the writing style. The author tried rally ahrd to make the main character sound like a teenager. But it just didn’t match. And overall, this was what made me loathe this book.

Writing Style Level: Horrible.
